I think the issue here is "Off the ball" incident. In this case it always doesn't matter how hurt or hard you were on the person, it is why you did it? Many time you see players get sent because they shove opponent on the cheek, they rub head to head (headbutt), small push on the back... and so on. So the point on an off the ball incident please do not try to do anything, ref will interpret it as retaliation of some sort. I am not an expert just saying.
